Asus Vivobook Touch X202 Test

That’s thing Unusual

I did no expect to see something like this outside of a novelty shop. A pentium ? In this day and age ?
Really? On a touch enabled device. I guess it could work. A low power processor for a decently powered notebook. Something for the people who only use a computer as a glorified Youtube machine.

UNDETECTABLE
The trick here is that the X202 looks like every other notebook on the market. Flip it open and it still looks like a low-end notebook. Thanks to the efficiency and quick start feature of Windows 8, you won’t even notice when the computer boots up. Only the sticker proudly proclaiming the Intel Pentium inside gives any hint about what lies inside this machine. I will admit, I had some issues with the machine when it first arrived. Screens were unresponsive and extremely slow. In fact, everything was so slow it eventually froze. Even the hard reset method failed to do anything. It was after draining the battery and leaving it overnight did I learn that I was trying to do too much at the same time. This isn’t one of those high-end notebooks that I am apparently spoiled with. Installing two drivers while updating Windows and playing Youtube in the background will apparently freeze everything. Still, it was good to find out when things would stop working.

THE KEYBOARD
I will say this once, 10in is not enough space to put a proper keyboard. The keys end up too small and tiny to be comfortable. Not much fun, even for people with hands that are regular-sized. Although, there is probably a subspecies of human that does like this sort of thing. Because they still keep making it.

TRICKLE CHARGE
For some reason, it takes a while to charge this machine. This setting preserves the battery for a lot longer but is also extremely frustrating to wait for. Those looking for a splash and dash won’t get much out of it. At least not enough to get anything substantial done. By that note, the battery life is relatively substantial. Possibly assisted by the fact that the Pentium is energy efficient. It feels odd that I would get the chance to praise an Intel Pentium but that’s how it is. Weird, but in a good way.
