Sony launches new water-proof and wire-free Walkman
Just when everyone started accepting the presence of water-resistant mobile devices, specifically those that hail from Sony’s stable, comes another mind-boggling upgrade to an age-old favourite, also from Sony: the world’s first water- proof (literally) Walkman!
Priced at RM299, the Sony NWZ-W273 Sports MP3 Player - available in blue, pink, white, and black - is supposed to produce crystal clear highs and deep bass as it promises the high-end headphones performance that Sony is known for.
While the other Sony devices are similarly classified as adequately water resistant, only the NWZ-W273 is completely water-proof as demonstrated during the “Wet Party” that was organised in conjunction with the launch of the newest Walkman. From mermaids and models to Malaysia’s national synchronised swimming team, all of them were tasked with showing how the device was still blaring away with their choice of music while they swam around in the swimming pool. Accompanying the mermaids, who wanted to snap pictures while underwater, were the Cyber-shot DSC-TX30 and Xperia Z.
Made to be water tight, the NWZ-W273 is designed to be conveniently and comfortably worn to the gym, for marathons and, specifically, the pool. This includes incorporating intuitive controls that allow users to easily adjust the volume, play/pause, or change the tracks while on the go. Featuring 4GB on-board memory, which translates to a storage capacity of approximately 1,000 songs, the water-proof Walkman is able to offer music playback of up to eight hours on a full charge. For those who want a quick charge option, it is able to operate for 60 minutes on just a three minute charge.
The NWZ-W273 is able to offer its users the opportunity to take their music with them to locations that are usually extremely hazardous to electronic devices. Beyond the gym and occasional rain showers, this device finally gives swimmers the option to listen music as they perform laps in the pool, something they can only dream of until now. The synchronised swim team, during the event, proved that the new Walkman was able to stay on and survive the wild and rapid movements of the swimmers while they performed their routine.
